Through the Grapevine

A specially chosen Branca Red wine from Bottlenotes CEO, Alyssa Rapp…
“I personally loved the time I spent on Safari in the Serengeti in 2008. While Tanzania isn’t yet well known for wine, another sub-Saharan African country is — South Africa! In the spirit of Safaris, my Branca Red wine recommendation of the week is Seven Sisters Pinotage/Shiraz 2008.”
Pinotage is an indigenous South African grape (a hybrid of Pinot Noir and Hermitage grapes), often characterized as having a “smokey” flavor; Shiraz, also known as Syrah, is well-known from Australia as big, bold, jammy wines. The phenomenal seven sisters who together make Seven Sisters wines from South Africa have decided to pair the two in a hearty, juicy, delectable blended wine. Deep ruby in color, with slight crimson rim, this wine’s bouquet opens with pepper, plum and dark berry fragrances layered with savoury and spice aromas. On the palate it offers smooth, ripe plum and mild black pepper flavors with a hint of nutmeg. At $14.99/bottle (way less than taking a Safari!), it packs a punch without breaking the bank!”
